What is Not Just Another Pretty Face?

NJAPF is a commissioning project created by the Hyde Park Art Center. The Art Center arranges commissions between patrons and artists who will produce engaging personal works (from the traditional to the very untraditional). This year marks the fourth installment of NJAPF, and will culminate in:

•An unveiling event in late 2010

•An exhibition in the Art Center’s main gallery

•A catalogue documenting the works and the collaborative process

What are the goals of the project?

The Hyde Park Art Center’s mission is to stimulate and sustain the visual arts in Chicago with the goal of making the city a place where artists can live, work, and thrive. This project is at the heart of that mission. Through it, the Center encourages a new and diverse group of people to think of themselves as supporters and patrons of contemporary art. Simultaneously, it builds lasting relationships between individual artists and patrons, creating a new base of support for their practice.

How can I get involved?

If you’re interested in learning more about how you can participate in Not Just Another Pretty contact Christina Jensen at 773.324.5520×1021 or cjensen {a} hydeparkart.org.

For Patrons:

You may choose to get involved in NJAPF for a number of reasons.
Here are a few, and really, only a few:

1. It’s fun!
2. You enjoy an artist’s work and would like to get to know more about them and their process.
3. You have a person, memory, event, place, etc. that you would like to commemorate through a personal work of art.
4. You’re new to buying art, or have never bought it before.
5. You have a favorite artist that you would like to champion.
6. To support the Hyde Park Art Center and its mission of supporting Chicago artists.

You can click here to visit our Not Just Another Pretty Face Flickr page and check out work by many of the artists involved.

NJAPF occurs every other year, and we are currently accepting submissions for the 2012 project (the process for artists will begin in spring 2011). You can get involved by submitting the follow by email to cjensen {a} hydeparkart.org before May 1, 2011:
