         <description><![CDATA[<p>The big question -what&#8217;s a Masters of Fine Art degree worth? - often raises more questions. Moderator, Annie Morse, will join Guest speakers from the Chicago schools that offer graduate level fine art degrees, including University of Chicago, University of Illinois (-Chicago and Springfield), Northwestern University, Columbia College and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to discuss the relevancy of the <span class="caps">MFA </span>degree. This event is held in conjunction with <em>Ground Floor</em>.</p>]]></description>

<p>This month features Pat Swanson, artist of the exhibition <em>Autofall</em>. Swanson uses repurposed auto parts to muse on the fate of the American auto industry, paying homage to the beauty of these worn and misshapen objects. This exhibition is on view from April 18 - October 17, 2010.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Come check out the Art Center&#8217;s newest venture: <a href="http://www.popupartloop.com/active.php?id=33">310 conTEMPORARY, </a>a Pop-Up Loop Gallery located at 310 S. Michigan in downtown Chicago. </p>

<p>Every first Thursday of the month you can take advantage of Pop-Up Loop&#8217;s <a href="http://www.popupartloop.com/events_detail.php?id=35">Gallery Walk</a>, a self guided tour of all the loop galleries. </p>

         <title>Ground Floor Artists Talk: The Technology Continuum</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Chris Cuellar, Joe Grimm, and Jesse McLean</strong> discuss their work in the exhibition and answer questions from the public. the exhibition <em><a href="http://www.hydeparkart.org/exhibitions/2010/08/emerging_chicago_artists.php">Ground Floor</a></em> features work that runs the gamut of technology from repurposed 16 millimeter film projectors throwing light on mechanical fans to twitter feeds digital video.  Combining low-tech and high-tech has its rewards and challenges.  The artists included in this talk will explain how they use the devices they&#8217;ve chosen to make artworks and why time-based media is important to their practice. </p>]]></description>

What were some of the challenges in attempting to translate the selections made by the artist, Brown, in his own home?  Find out what gems  - both objects and stories - Lowe found while researching the hundreds of boxes of Brown&#8217;s collection kept secret in storage.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Artist Run Spaces Tour #3</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Hyde Park Art Center presents another in a series of bike tours of artist run art spaces in the Chicago area.  Designed as a way to discover the often hard to find offerings of Chicago&#8217;s young and emerging artists, the bike tours are geared towards art patrons and enthusiasts that seek to engage our exciting and world famous <span class="caps">DIY </span>art scene.  Cyclists will cover city streets between venues where artist/curator/gallerists will discuss the vitality and importance of artist-run spaces. </p>

<p>We&#8217;ll begin our tour here at the Hyde Park Art Center. </p>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Daniel Bruttig, Maria Gaspar, Daniel Lavitt, and Jennifer Ray</strong> discuss their work in the exhibition and answer questions from the public.  How do these artists think of site as a medium at play in their artwork? This talk focuses on the concept of &#8220;site&#8221; in its various definitions presented in these <em>Ground Floor </em>artists&#8217; works: 1) as the venue for object or project display; 2) as a foreign location that is incorporated into the cultural content of a work; and 3) as a framework to control the experience. </p>]]></description>
