“Colophon” comes from the Greek “κολοφων,” meaning ‘a summit,’ ‘top,’ ‘finishing.’ It is a description of the details and methods behind a publication, often found on the last few pages of a book.
Typography
The logo was created by Jason Pickleman at jnl graphic design, and was set in Monolein Inbetween, Gotham Book and Gotham Black. The website body text is set in Trebuchet MS to echo the Monolein font. Text headers use a combination of Arial and Arial Black, similar to the usage of Gotham Book and Black. Trebuchet, Arial and Arial Black are all web safe fonts. Any imaged headers are set in Monolein.
Design
Neoteric Design designed and developed this site, based on branding by JNL. Neoteric redesigns websites with a focus on customer needs, site goals, ease of use and engaging design.
The first site redeisgn was launched in 2004. With the Center’s move to its new building, and with the benefit of a few year’s experience and feedback, a revised edition was launched in the spring of 2006.
Technical
We use Adobe Photoshop, Omnigraffle Professional, and TextMate to create this site.
The site runs on PHP. Content is maintained using MovableType 3. A range of useful plugins are in use: MTSQL, SmartyPants and Textile 2 are used for content wrangling. The site is authored using structural XHTML, and complies with the 1.0 transitional web standards as set by the W3C.
